When reflecting on this particular film, a plethora of terms rapidly manifest: predictable, contrived, and bewildering, just to mention a few. In numerous suspense thrillers, viewers often find themselves uncontrollably shouting out guidance to the protagonists, such as "do not venture into the cellar - the antagonist lurks there" or "prioritize self-preservation! Abandon all thoughts of retrieving your feline companion!" Curiously, this film failed to elicit such visceral reactions from me. Not because the choices made by the characters were impeccably prudent or justified, but rather because their actions were constantly enshrouded in a perplexing haze. It was as if their motivations were shrouded in a dense fog, leaving the audience scrambling to make sense of their seemingly random decisions. This sense of confusion extended far beyond the storyline, seeping gratuitously into the overall atmosphere and pacing of the film. Regrettably, the narrative structure, which should have been the backbone of the film, emerged as its greatest downfall. The plot twists felt gratuitous and forced, lacking both substance and coherence. Consequently, the film suffered from a severe case of predictability - a cardinal sin in the realm of suspense cinema. Even the resolution, intended to bring clarity and closure, proved to be disappointingly conventional and unremarkable. All in all, this film can only be described as a concoction of missed opportunities and worn-out tropes, failing to deliver a truly gripping and engaging experience. In retrospect, it is best to approach this film with tempered expectations, lest one be left with an overwhelming sense of dissatisfaction and bewilderment.
